THE TRUE STORY
Vikasana institute of rural and urban development is one of oldest NGO in this district and has formed around 700 SHG around Mandya district. This NGO has developed a number of Income generation activities like Banana fiber products, village markets( mutual marketing) and Silk products in urban poor with help of Beautiful silks Australia (Silk project is full sponsored by Mrs. Marion Gorr- Beautiful silks) which enables them to export the goods to Australia.
A group woman (slums) from different Self help groups was encouraged and designed by Vikasana (especially Mr Mahesh Chandra guru the director) to procure a land for housing. Eighty six women from different cast, religion came forward and pool the hard-earned money for the land but the value of the land is very high for their out of pocket savings. Vikasana find out another solution for the money and approached local banks and Sangamithra ( a micro finance institution) acquired a loan for the them ( 3500 thousand).
The area of the land is 3.5 acres and Vikasana is planning to develop an eco friendly and self sustainable housing village at Mandya city. Solar energy, bio gas plant, library, community hall, rain water harvesting, rainwater recharging etc.
This success belongs to hard working three young women and two men from Mandya city working voluntarily for this project.
